Testimonials

Shelly is not your average coach! Not only is she a stand out, top athlete in her own right, but she is a nurturing, human, collaborative, understanding, yet total kick-ass coach in all respects. Her deep knowledge of the human body and brain gives her a unique ability to draw out the very best from her clients …so they hit physical and mental limits they never knew possible. Shelly has single-handedly helped me through one of my hardest years mentally whilst dealing with injury. She has known when to push and when to back off. She understands that life and work have to take priority and her unique ability to help you balance those things is why her holistic approach to training is so successful. She never fails to get the best out of me, enables me to prioritize when I have to, but also knows when to give the dig deep and suck it up type approach, that makes you better, faster, and stronger. I can’t wait to continue to improve and get stronger with Shelly in many seasons to come.

In early June of 2021, I raced with 3 other teammates in the u19 national regatta -- and we won! Prior to getting there, we decided that we were working hard on our conditioning and technique but we needed help with the mental side of things. The mental work we were able to do with Shelly helped tremendously. We all felt comfortable around her, which allowed her to help us get into a good headspace for our race. She gave us tips, helped us focus, answered all of our questions clearly, and generally went above and beyond. We really appreciate her assistance, and I don’t think we would have won without her.

I’ve been training with Shelly for 5 years.  Shelly’s coaching is very much about developing an agile mindset.  It’s a constant fine-tuning of the mental game that in my case goes from sport into life.  Shelly is very much about mental resilience.  She is a natural endurance athlete, so she teaches how to focus on the pertinent areas with ease.  I get the best of both worlds, a very accomplished athlete and psychologist. Shelly’s coaching saw me through my first ironman and got me qualified for the Boston Marathon twice.  It’s also about the journey. A couple of years ago, due to health issues, I ended up dropping out of an Ironman race.  An experience that brought with it doubts and insecurities.  Shelly worked with me to make sure I finished the season with some very positive races, which I did.  We were able to turn the experience into a learning one.  I feel stronger for it, more resilient, and confident to continue going after my goals, possibly more so than before. Training for endurance races requires a lot of energy and managing of everyday life.  Shelly keeps me in the big picture by helping me navigate through what matters now, the process, the performance goals vs the end goal, the race.  I could go on!  I’ll finish by saying that I have an exciting race season ahead and I plan to train with Shelly for many years to come.
